SynopsisTHE BAD JOKE is a dramatic feature film that illustrates the unhappy circumstances in which many European teenagers find themselves.

The foundation of the European Union has established parity between states with different economies and different average salaries. Many people from weaker economic systems go to work in countries that are economically more strong, looking for better wages. The recent financial crisis and the lack of employment has dramatically increased the situation.

Adults, in many cases parents, go to work abroad and leave their young children without any parental guidance at home.

At a young age, the family represents a natural protection; to have parents who are working in other countries creates a need and a major lack of help for a young person. The family crisis that is generated contributes to the uncertainty and well being in the lives of the teenagers.

This new situation exposes teenagers to temptations that could bring them off track such as alcohol, drugs, prostitution and similar non-solutions. Many of them try to solve the problems they face but that they didn’t create in wrong ways. Of course, there are different ways to react to all this; some are good, many are bad and bring about bad consequences.

THE BAD JOKE is a fruit of fiction, it is a new non graphic feature film that portrays some situations in which many adolescents and teenagers live while they face the new challenges in today’s new European Union.

“The bad joke” is what the European Union has created for many teenagers. This phenomenon is unknown in America and it is not yet fully understood in Europe. This film, for the first time, exposes the unfortunate reality of tens of thousands of European teenagers.

FACTS SHEET

Davidson Black
Canadian anthropologist Davidson Black (1884-1934)

The archaeological excavation team of the Peking Union Medical College, discovered THE PEKING MAN’s skull fossil in the year 1926 at Zhoukoudian near Beijing. Despite the name given, THE PEKING MAN was later discovered to be in fact a woman; the scientists who discovered the skull jokingly named it NELLY.

Nelly lived and died a half million years ago. The Chinese regard THE PEKING MAN as their own ancestor. The scientific community considers it to be the origin of all mankind.

The remains were studied and conserved in China at the Medical College until the year 1941. That year the Japanese invaded China and, for the fossil’s safety, the United States Marines were asked to bring it back to America in their personal luggage. Unfortunately, the marines had to surrender to the Japanese army and the footlockers containing the fossil disappeared.

Searches for the fossil took place during and after the Second World War, but none were successful.

Since it’s disappearance, rewards have been offered for the recovery of the fossil, but as of today, its whereabouts remain a mystery; nobody really knows if it still exists, where it is and who has it.

Synopsis: The story takes place in today’s Ghana (Africa). It is inspired by a young girl called Edinam. She was a slave of Fetish Priests. Against all odds, Edinam escapes the shrine and continues her education. As the film follows Edinam’s life from the age of innocence to premature adulthood, the viewers get to see a beautiful showcase of the real and very animated African life in a typical village.

According to the customary practice in Ghana's Volta region, which has lasted some 300 years, if someone commits a serious crime or social infraction, traditional leaders order that a young girl from that family be sent to the shrine as a form of atonement. She is expected to serve the priests for many years, after which the family might redeem her. In this time, the chief priest and his entourage genitally mutilate and sexually abuse the girls. They consider them their own ‘property’. The abuse leads to numerous pregnancies and miscarriages of girls as young as 12 years old.

Edinam (Real Name: Belinda Siamey), the protagonist of the story, made history in Africa by playing herself in the principal role of this feature film.
